Stitch Fix

Personal Style Delivered - Data System & Analytics

Katrina Lake didn’t set out to create a company , but she knew the way customers shopped through countless stores and dozens of online tabs was not the future of retail. She paired her love of data with her passion for retail to create a monthly subscription box that provided customers with a truly unique retail experience. By using surveys and algorithms to tailor every clothing selection to the customer they have captured millions of data points that help them continually evolve and predict upcoming trends.

The Challenge

Using data to better understand users’ wants and needs has enabled Stitch Fix to outlast their competition and reduce waste in their inventory cycles. While data capture is absolutely critical to their business model, consumers are easily frustrated by lengthy surveys and constantly updating apps. Stitch Fix needed to update its data capture and management in a way that supported its evolution.

The Solution

The team sought out Carbon Five to be a trusted partner in helping them prepare for their future. With an influx of over 2 million users, the team needed to improve data capture and processing to keep up with demand.

The new architecture augmented Stitch Fix’s powerful analytics platform and furthered them as leaders in individualized styling. Stitch Fix sold $730 million worth of clothing in 2016 and $977 million worth in 2017.

The Process

Our teams developed creative data capture tests. We worked with Stitch Fix to build and implement a flexible data system that supports dynamic data requests, multi-channel deployment, and behavioral science insights.
