Founded in June of 2012, Coinbase is a digital currency exchange platform where consumers and investors can easily buy, sell and hold digital currencies.
Coinbase wants to make it easier for institutional investors to get into crypto via index funds.The CoinBase index is comprised of all assets that exists on coinbase.com - Litecoin, Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Ethereum Classic, and Ethereum. This index tracks how the assets are doing over time.
Carbon Five’s product, design, and development team built the services and platform that underlie the Index. This included pulling and calculating data from each blockchain, an algorithmic trading tool that trades against selected exchanges to match composition of the Coinbase Index. The system tracks how the assets are doing over time and this data is available to internal and external parties via an API, webhooks, and an embeddable widget.
The Coinbase Index Fund was only live for a few months, but the index itself is still used to track the overall crypto market today.
